It was a day when the highly favoured teams clearly demonstrated their superior
ability when the Milo Under-20 Schools Football Competition resumed yesterday, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Highlighting the day’s top performances were Tucville, who demolished St. Winefride 9-0 and that, was before defending champion Chase Academic Foundation inflicted a crushing 7-0 triumph over East Ruimveldt.
Also cruising to a lop-sided win was last year’s beaten finalist Dolphin, who looked impressive in their 6-1 drubbing of Cummings Lodge.
Tucville, a team that has a proud record at the junior level seems to be a much stronger unit this year and it will take a good team to stop them from marching much further into the competition.
Calvin Peters and Keifer Brandt showed that they possess abundant skills and with their confidence sky high following yesterday’s exhibition, they might just be a handful for opposing teams.
Another duo that seems to be in ominous for are Dolphin’s Leon Richardson and Shawn Mohamed, two experienced players at this level and they too will be aiming to continue their rich vein of form against upcoming opponents.
However, the reigning champs operated in cruise control in their clash against East Ruimveldt and their victories have come with a certain level of ease.
Perhaps the only blemish in their performances to date is the many chances that has ben squandered due to a degree of selfishness from the more established players.
This is a development that the coaching stafff will have to quell and ensure that they play as a team.
The competition continues today with three more matches at the same venue.
