Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ordered a minibus driver to post bail in the sum of $150,000 after he
pleaded not guilty to an armed robbery charge when he appeared before her in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on November 8, 2015 at Campbellville, Georgetown, Hale Forrester, armed with a knife, robbed Natasha Allen of a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone among other items to the value of $252,800.
The 47-year-old man who resides at Second Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was ordered to return to court on March 7, before Magistrate Dylon Bess.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones did oppose to bail for the defendant. He had pointed out the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. However, his objections were overruled by the Magistrate.
Jones told the court that Forrester managed to escape after committing the crime. He said that on February 17, Allen spotted her assailant and contacted the police. But the defendant is claiming that he is being wrongfully accused of the offence. According to him, the alleged victim told police that she was robbed by someone on a motorcycle and he has never rode or owned one.
