The Golyn 10/10 countrywide softball cricket tournament organized by the Guyana Softball League brought out maximum entertainment as matches see sawed and winners enjoyed the appreciation of the crowd. The results
failed to reflect the excitement but those who were there were properly entertained and left feeling satisfied as the enquiries on the next set of matches brought out positive responses on being present.
The results of the matches are as follows:
Mighty Lions roared past Maracs XI by 8 wkts:
Maracs took first strike and made 46 all out in 8 overs (Anil Shaw 15 (2×6); Trevor Parjohn 3-8 from 2 overs; Manoj Persaud 3-9 also from his 2 overs). In reply Mighty Lions lost two quick wickets but recovered through skipper Manoj Persaud 30 not out (4×6) as they achieved victory by 8 wkts.
Prem XI defeated Super bet XI by 8 runs:
Prem XI won the toss and elected to bat scoring 104 – 4 in 10 overs with Rajendra Kumar 32(2×6;2×4) and Narendra Hussain 31(4×6) being the top scorers. Asif Hussain took 2-33 from 2 overs. In their turn Super Bet XI, who were a favorite with the crowd, were cruising at 75-5 in the 7th over when man of the day Premnauth Bhimchan took the ball and started to work his magic accounting for 5 batsmen including a hat-trick which saw Super Bet XI falling to pieces and ended on 96 all out with only Jitendra Kishore with 31 (1×6;5×4) being able to offer resistance. He also was one of Bhimchan’s victims who was also responsible for a tough catch and effected a run out. Bhimchan’s took 5-13 from his two overs which included the first hat-trick of the tournament.
Unstoppable XI defeated Good Fortuin Exclusive XI by 33 runs:
Unstoppable XI batted first and rattled up 119- 7 in 10 overs (Zaheer Haniff 22(3×6) and Eustace Joseph 22 (3×6) being the top scorers. In reply Exclusive XI made a valiant fight of it and when Wendell Austin was there it seemed possible but with his dismissal for a well-played 42(4×6) the innings fell apart as the Unstoppable bowlers tightened the noose around their opponents. Yesim Mohamed took 4-8 from 2 overs.
Speedboat SC defeated Vipers XI by 19 runs:
Speedboat XI batted first and made a challenging 131 all out in 9.3 overs with Greg Singh continuing from the Mobile Wizard tournament final where he was the top scorer, slamming 44 (6×6) in this innings. Amit Hussain snared 3-24 from his two overs with Omar Mohamed supporting with 2-12 from a single over. In reply Vipers XI lost their first wicket in the first over with only one run on the board but Vickash Totaram 48 with five of the biggest sixes of the day and two fours and with support from Arif Hussain 29 (4×6) and in a partnership worth 90 runs took them to the brink, but his exuberance got the better of him and he played over an innocuous delivery and was bowled. His dismissal also signaled a rush of wickets and they eventually were bowled out for 113 in a disappointed display by the others with 8 wkts falling for just thirteen runs. Imran Hamid was the engineer of the destruction with 3-10 from his 2 overs with support from Kishore Smith with 2-22 from two overs also.
Vipers have only themselves to blame as they have consistently found themselves in winning positions but throw it away eventually.
Meanwhile, in the one ball manto, two spectators Nicholas Shivkumar and Narine Shaw go forward to the next weekend after winning their respective rounds. They are the recipients of $1000 credit each compliments of Miss Love Trading (West Coast) who have continued to support this game for the spectators for the second tournament running.
