The Golden Jaguars are back in camp as National Coach Jamaal Shabazz announced a 22 man squad
for this weekend’s friendly against Suriname.
The squad is totally local based and shows recalls for Slingerz winger Trayon Bobb after his debut in his club’s, 1 nil victory of Pele over the weekend. Also recalled is Slingerz captain, midfielder Tichard Joseph and Alpha’s Dwight Peters.
The National squad includes Gregory Chan Richardson and his sidekicks Travis Zorro Grant and Devon Millington, while youngsters Dwayne Lindie, Dellon Lanferman and youth goalkeeper Jason Cromwell have been added.
Regulars Vurlon Mills, Colin Nelson and King Solomon Austin are also in the squad, while Daniel Wilson who was on trial in the USA is also named in the team.
Former Suriname based players Defenders Quincy Adams and Kester Jacobs of Slingerz FC make a return to the national set up as well.
“We want to focus on the local based for this game and test the work of the clubs in the Elite League. These lads are getting first bite of the cherry, but places on this squad is going to be very difficult going forward.
Asked about the compliance of players like Richardson, Grant and Millington, Shabazz was very open; “We have opened the door to everyone again. It’s a new administration and a new start to the programme. I love Chan, Milli and Zorro but we have rules. Once they can conform to the team policy I welcome them.
“We have standards and we want everyone to be the best they can be for Guyana, once that happens I cool. If not history has shown I am not afraid to act to protect the interests of the team and the mission”, stated Shabazz.
Shabazz is happy for the game and welcomes the rivalry that Guyana/ Suriname clashes bring.
“We have a thing with Suriname and it’s exciting to have them as our first opponent after a long layoff. The fans should be in for a very exciting game, they won the last encounter in Paramaribo and we want to destroy them on our doorstep,” stated Shabazz.
The team will conduct sessions at the Providence Stadium, the venue for the game on Sunday.
