Berbician Dhieranidranauth Somwaru was re-elected unopposed as President of the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council when the body held its bi-annual general meeting yesterday at Union Building, Woolford Avenue.
Shannon Crawford returned as the Vice President, Nigel Duguid Secretary, Eddie Nicholls Treasurer, Arleigh Rutherford Assistant Secretary Treasurer and Zaheer Mohamed Public Relations Officer. The Committee Members are Zabeer Zakier, Dawchand Nagassar, Yosef Yisrael and Joseph Jeffery.
Speaking after the elections, Sowmaru thanked the members for their confidence and congratulated those who were successful at WICUA examinations in 2015. He added that the GCUC will embark on a magazine which will feature on past and present local umpires.
The Berbice association indicated that they honoured a few members for their services rendered to cricket while the Essequibo Association indicated that Elroy Stephney and Totaram Ramnarine were successful at preliminary and oral and practical exams in 2015. Demerara association informed that Crawford was retained as their president and Duguid was selected to officiate at the ICC U19 World Cup.
