Shemon Gittens and Akinyele Darrel scorched the track and eventually braced the tape together to share the top prize when the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) launched the 2016 race walk season with the Forbes Burnham death anniversary race walk on Sunday February 7. Enoch Allicock and Akquyl Henry finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
The race, which attracted more than 50 athletes, started off at the President’s College, Golden Grove ECD and proceeded to the village market before the competitors retraced their steps to the place of origin.
Douriusue Thompson was the first female to cross the line just before Carol Bobb-Semple with Akquyl Henry closing off the podium spots in this category.
The respective winners and runners up received their prizes from President of the Paradise/Bachelor’s Adventure Youth, Sports and Culture Club, Gordon Venture with assistance from his Vice President, Rudolph McPherson and Secretary Ras Aaron Blackman.
Trophies and medals were donated by Mohamed Ahmad, Managing Director of Mohamed Ahmad Construction Works, Belvedere, Corentyne.
