-Alpha draw with Conquerors
League Genesis champion Slingerz FC commenced the second round of their campaign on the right footing
with a 1-0 win against Pele in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League on Friday, at the Guyana Defence Force ground, Camp Ayanganna.
Captain Tichard Joseph 32nd minute strike from the penalty spot made the difference between the two teams, before a fair-sized crowd.
Joseph’s right footed effort was placed into the lower left hand corner, leaving the opposing goalkeeper no chance of saving.
The victory means that the West Demerara-based unit collected three points, while Pele was left without a point.
In the other game of the double header, League Genesis runner-up Alpha United and Fruta Conquerors encounter ended in a 1-1 draw. Darren Harris put Alpha United in the 36th minute with a neat finish into the lower left corner from the centre of the box, before Conquerors equalised in the 66th minute through Shaquille Agard after he dinked his effort over the advancing goalkeeper from a Jahaal Greaves through pass.
Both teams were awarded a point each.
Action in the League is set to resume today, at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) in Bourda with another doubleheader.
In the opening encounter at 18:00hrs, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) tackle Buxton United, while GFC engages Monedderlust FC in the feature contest at 20:30hrs.
The winning team will receive $4million, while the second, third and fourth placed teams will take home $2million, $1million and $500,000 respectively.
Additionally, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage will pocket $1million.
