Federal Winners to be challenged by Hi Stars, Panthers oppose Blueberry Hill
The Upper Demerara Football Association Division One League, which was halted for the playing of the
GT Beer year end tournament, will resume finally tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground with a double header card.
Second placed Federal Winners Connection, who have seven points, three behind leaders Topp XX, could join the podium position with a win when they face Hi Stars in the second game of the night at 8.30pm, while in the first at 6.30pm Blueberry Hill take on Amelia’s Ward Panthers.
The Winners Connection have played five games, winning two, losing two and drawing the other, while Hi Stars have five points to be in the fourth spot having won one game, losing two and drawing one.
The triple time GT Beer champions are confident that they can walk away with this title having the quality forward Marmalaque Davidson and veteran Rawle Gittens on the forward line, midfield duties with Keon Sears, Chris Young and Gary Thompson and a defence led by Marlon Maxius and the best defender of the GT beer tournament and MVP Derrol Dainty.
The Hi Stars side can create an upset but they may find themselves in a quandary if they rest their hopes on forceful striker Tony ‘Spirit’ Adams, which could prove their undoing against such a strong opponent.
The first game is between Blueberry Hill who have four points from five games with one win, two losses and one draw with their opponents the Panthers also with four points but have played one less game, four played, with one win, two losses and one draw.
The Panthers are looking to Jevon Babb and Ray Bobbsemple to get their goals principally with Kevin Plowell and Marlon Simon having roles at the midfield and defence to cater for.
The Blueberry Hill side will depend much on their goal getters in Devon Caesar and Levi Fraser and a battling all round team.
