Meanwhile, the Launch of the tournament was conducted shortly before the start of play with the winning trophy presented by Banks DIH representative Tony Ramcharran, handing it over to Co-ordinatror Errol Baird in the presence of Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste and other officials.
Acconding to Baptiste, the overwhelming response to the event by the fans on the West Demerara has been noticed and from all indications this year’s tournament is anticipated to generate a much bigger turnout. He added that Banks DIH has responded by merging the East Bank Demerara to the tournament for the first time and according to him the move has stimulated much interest and rivalry among the teams and fans.
Additionally, Baptiste stated that the new development can only attest to Banks DIH’s commitment to the communities by creating and promoting constructive social activities.
The tournament is expected to last six playing days with 16 teams participating in the competition.
Over $750,000 in total prize monies are up for grabs with the winning team set to receive $300,000, runner-up $200,000, 3rd place – $100,000 and 4th place – $50,000.
Baptiste extended thanks to Trophy Stall and Colours Boutique for their continued commitment to community development.
The two entities have sponsored the trophies and uniforms respectively.
At the end of the tournament, the top two teams will advance to the national championships.
Fans will have a chance on all playing days to win cool Guinness prizes. On the final night two lucky fans will have a chance to win One Guinness Branded desk top cooler.
