Guyana Defence Force head, Brigadier Mark Phillips was returned unopposed as
President of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) on Thursday evening at the Police Officers Mess at Eve Leary when the association held its Annual General Meeting.
The event was well attended with a large turnout of members being welcomed by Honorary Secretary Ryan Sampson and Chairman of the proceedings, Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud. Following reports from the Secretary, Treasurer, Full and Smallbore captains, Persaud and Dale Hing, it was time for elections.
As a result of the various nominations the executive to run the affairs of the association, which had a good year despite some challenges, was elected by the members. Attorney-at-law, Lieutenant Colonel Leslie Sobers served as the Returning Officer for these elections.
The full executive chosen by the members are: President Brigadier Mark Phillips, Vice Presidents, Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe and Senior Council Richard Fields, Honorary Secretary Ryan Sampson, Treasurer Lieutenant Colonel Terrence Stuart, Assistant Secretary Treasurer Hemant Narine, Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud, Vice Captain Dylan Fields, Smallbore Captain Dale Hing, Vice Captain Gordon Richards, while the
Committee Members are Dr. Yohan Da Silva, Lennox Braithwaite and Sherwin Felicien. The Auditors are Leo Ramalho and Murtland Smith.
Brigadier Phillips was absent following a pressing engagement with Head of State President David Granger. Also absent was ACP Paul Slowe who is on duties with the West Indies Under-19 team in Bangladesh.
