Dear Editor,
I write to you with a very heavy heart regarding a situation I recently found myself in. But before I let you know what that is let me briefly let you know why I write to you. I always read your paper online from London and had one day noticed an article about the community development lodge and its chairman (name supplied) highlighting the groups’ plight regarding their building. OK I said to myself this is a man of good standing in the community but you might wonder why am I saying this? Well as recent as 18th January of this new year I found myself boarding a plane from London to investigate if this man is a seller of land or a con as he sold me a piece of land at the back of the Chinese Embassy a year ago.
For 1 million Guyana dollars I grew suspicious because a year later I still did not have deeds/transport for the land. To cut a very long story short I found out by your Brickdam police station that indeed he is a fraud. He appears to hold himself with high regard in the community to the point he did not want this matter to get to court. He was willing to pay the whole million so his good standing could continue (as he was not the only one involved). But it has left me so hurt and tearful. Please can you if possible tell me who in fact owns the back lands by Chinese Embassy as this man is profiting from it. He refuses to see the error of his ways. And still maintains he has a right to sell this land even though he has no documentation that states this. In Guyana can you sell land that does not belong to you? I had to fight to get my money back from him. He issued me with documents a 1 million dollar receipt that I had to buy revenue stamps for I believe that’s what it is called
Then he issued me with a community lodge letter-head stating I am the sole owner of land at the back of the Chinese Embassy. He refuses to see that he has done wrong. He took my hard earned money and I believed the money was going into the community lodge bank account. Everyone on the land had in fact bought their piece of the land. I found out they are all squatters. All I want is possible answers and a warning to others that this man is not as honest as he wants the community to believe and expose his dodgy dealings. There were signatures on this document. Who signed this document? They too should have shared in police questioning. I cannot replace this money as I have only recovered 100,000 of it back from Mr Philips. I am so hurt; left wondering how and where can I get this money. Contrary to the myth foreigners do not have lots of money. I am living proof we are not rich. This man has children, daughters my age how would he like it if someone robbed his daughter?
Veronica Morina.
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
