The Hearts of Oaks Master Football club (HOMFC) 2016 football programme began on Monday with five matches in the Inter Primary school football competition.
Considered one of Guyana’s leading football organisations, the HOMFC organised tournament is catering for schools in the New Amsterdam/ Canje areas with matches for both boys and girls.
The matches are being played at the All Saints Scot Church Ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam.
When the tournament kicked off on Monday five matches were played – Results showed All Saints primary humbling Fort Ordnance 3-0 with Airon Arokium, John Reid and Naquan Samuels scoring. In another game, St Aloysius Primary squeezed past New Amsterdam Primary 1-0 with Amar Crawford being the lone goal scorer. The other matches between All Saints and ST Aloysius ended in a 0-0 draws, the same result as the encounter between New Amsterdam Primary and Fort Ordnance primary.
In a lone female encounter, All Saints Primary and Fort Ordnance Primary played to a 0-0 draw.
The tournament is continuing at the All Saints Scot Church Ground which is the venue for all of the matches. Kick off time is 15:30 hrs on each day with each game scheduled to last for 30 minutes. The final is slated for today.
The schools invited to participate have been divided into two groups with group ‘A’ comprising of St Aloysius, All Saints and Overwinning Primaries, while New Amsterdam, St Therese, Fort Ordnance and Lochaber Primaries are in group B.
Trophies and other incentives will be presented to the top two schools.
There will also be incentives for most valuable Player, best Goalkeeper, best defender, and most promising player among others.
The tournament is being sponsored by the Humphrey family.
The activity is being coordinated by Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey and members of the HOMFC. (Samuel Whyte)
