Shiv unavailable, Jacobs, Barnwell injured
By Sean Devers
Twenty-six year old left-hander Robin Bacchus is the only uncapped player named in the Guyana Jaguars 13-man squad for tomorrow’s sixth round PCL four-day game against Trinidad & Tobago’s Red Force at Providence.
The GCC batsman scored six in his only 50-over game for Guyana against Jamaica in Trinidad two years ago and was a member of the Steven Jacobs led Guyana team which won the 2007 three-day under-19 tournament in St Kitts.
Veteran Shiv Chanderpaul is unavailable after opting to play in the lucrative Masters’ t20 tournament in Dubai, while all-rounders Chris Barnwell and Steven Jacobs are unavailable due to injuries sustained in last month’s NAGICO Super50.
The Jaguars squad includes five players who have played Test cricket and will be led by Leon Johnson.
Johnson has been consistent without going on to a three-figure score this season and has led the team to five consecutive wins in the first half of the tournament and a top-of-the-table 85 points, 22 more than second placed Barbados Pride.
Singh who ended the first phase as Guyana’s leading run scorer including two centuries, is the Vice Captain. Back in the side after playing in the Test Series in Australia are opener Rajendra Chandrika and leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo.
The tournament’s leading wicket-taker left-arm spinner 20-year-old Gudakesh Motie is also among the 13 players named.
Guyana Jaguars squad: Rajendra Chandrika, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Assad Fudadin, Leon Johnson (Capt), Vishaul Singh (V/Capt), Raymon Reifer, Anthony Bramble, Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Gudakesh Motie, Keon Joseph, Ronsford Beaton, Robin Bacchus, Esaun Crandon (Head Coach), Rayon Griffith (Asst Coach/Manager).
