An early morning freak accident has resulted in the death of a well known High Street labourer.
The dead man, who was identified as “Jermaine,” or ‘Runnings Man’ is said to be a street dweller.
According to reports, the accident occurred at around 08:25hrs yesterday on High Street, Georgetown, between Hadfield Street and Brickdam.
Eyewitnesses say that the man was about to cross the intersection at High and Hadfield Streets when his shirt became entangled with the edge of a passing container truck. The man was dragged for a short distance beneath the container truck which crushed part of his head.
When this newspaper visited the scene, not much could be said about the man’s personal life or identity. Some persons referred to him as a drug addict or “junkie.”
Ingrid Weekes, a vendor located on the High Street pavement, recalled that ‘Runnings Man,’ would usually assist her with her push cart. She said that she is unable to say whether the man has any relatives.
The man’s remains were taken to a morgue in the city shortly after the accident.
