The Cricket teams of the Rose Hall town Youth and Sports Club as part of a board based anti-suicide campaign has joined hands with the Bank of Nova Scotia to host a Massive School Children Mash Parade on Thursday18 of February 2016. The Parade would involve ten schools; Lower Corentyne Secondary, Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary, Port Mourant Secondary, J.C Chandisingh Secondary, Rose Hall Town Nursery, New Amsterdam Secondary, Rose Hall Town Primary, Belvedere Primary, Port Mourant Primary and Tain Primary.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the RHTYSC had hosted an annual Children Mash Parade in the past but did not host any for the last two years due to a very heavy work schedule. The Club had however decided to host one in 2016 as part of an effort to promote the Say No to Suicide message in response to the numerous suicide cases rocking the Berbice area.
The Teams that would be organizing the Parade are the Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under 15, RHT Pepsi Under 19, RHT Bakewell Under 17 and Second Division, Gismos and Gadgets Under 21 and First Division and Metro Females. The Parade would also be used to inform youths of the Say No to Drugs and Crime message and to encourage them to stay in schools and complete their educational careers. Efforts would also be made to urge them to get involved in sports as an alternative to a life on the road.
Foster recently held a planning session with representatives of the ten schools and disclosed that the organisers would make a small financial contribution to each school in an effort to get them properly prepared for the parade. Suicide, the long serving Secretary/CEO stated is a major problem in Berbice and the RHTYSC would continue to seek ways to get youths to understand the value of life.
Marketing Executive of Scotia Bank Jennifer Cipriani expressed her delight at been associated with the anti-suicide Children Mash Parade and expressed confidence that the RHTYSC organized event would be a major success. Scotia Bank, she stated is quite aware of its corporate responsibilities to the Guyanese society and would continue to support activities that seek to make a positive difference in society.
