-Samuels win sprint double
Andrea Foster continued her early form on Sunday when The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) held its
second Developmental Meet at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary after comfortably winning her 800m race.
Foster ran 2:24.8 secs ahead of Mercury Fast Laners’ Sasha James, who was second in 2:40.7.
Avon Samuels set up another showdown with Natricia Hooper in the 400m. Samuels clocked 57:00 seconds ahead of Hooper’s 58.7 seconds. Tirana Mitchell (1:05.0s) was third. Samuels also won the 200m ahead of Natricia’s sister, Natrena Hooper.
She ran 25:00 ahead of Natrena’s 25.4 seconds. Police’s Kezia Bess was third in 26.8 seconds.
Natrena won Open 100m in 12.3 seconds ahead of Defence Force’s, Aniquah Powley, who had a time of 12.6 seconds. Bess was third again in 12.8 seconds.
Police’s Linton Mentis emerged the fastest in the male final-by-time 100m with a time of 10.5 seconds. Mentis led a Police sweep with Stephon Boodie second in 10.9 and Dwight Smith third 11:00 seconds.
Eon Rodney won the 400m in a time of 49.7 seconds, while Kareem Purch finished second with 50.2 secs.
Cleveland Thomas won the Men’s Open 5000m ahead of Winston Messenger (17:54.5) in 16:31.
Matthew McKenzie ran 4:20.2 seconds to win the men’s Open 1500m.
In the field events, Leslain Baird threw 55.85m to take the Men’s Javelin, while The University of Guyana’s multi-talented athlete, Emanuel Archibald won the long jump after leaping 6.75m.
Natrena leaped 12.53m to win the triple jump ahead of Natricia (11.69m). Chantoba Bright, who placed third in the triple jump with 11.55m, won the long jump with 5.61m ahead of UG’s Feona Mentis (4.13m).
