Police Sergeant Leon Lindo will make another court appearance today, as the commencement of a Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the conspiracy to murder Mohamed F. Khan begins in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Lindo is accused of conspiring with Lennox ‘Two Colours’ Wayne to murder Khan, a popular businessman, between July 10 and July 18, 2014 at the Criminal Investigations Department, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
Lindo made his first court appearance on May 28, last.
The charge against Police Sergeant Lindo, of Lot 220 Belle West, Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara, stemmed from revelations by whistleblower Wayne, who is presently an inmate of the Georgetown Prisons awaiting High Court trial for the 2014 murder of Lusignan Cosmetologist, Ashmini Harriram. Apart from the Police Sergeant, Wayne had implicated a retired Assistant Police Commissioner in the killing, but the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ruled that there was insufficient evidence to link the senior police officer to the crime.
Police had launched investigations into Khan’s disappearance and Lennox Wayne had provided them with a statement in which he said that he and Lindo plotted to murder Khan.
Wayne had claimed that he was contracted by Lindo to kill the businessman for a fee of $500,000. However, he alleged that there was a fall out after the Lindo had failed to honour his end of the bargain.
City Magistrate Judy Latchman is presiding over the matter, while Police Inspector Vishnu Hunt is presenting the prosecution’s case.
Mohamed F. Khan’s, who was last heard from on August 21, 2014, disappeared and his dismembered body was discovered on a dam at Cummings Lodge on September 23, 2014. His skull, which was wrapped in a plastic bag, was located several feet from the body.
Khan, 54, had escaped execution in July 2014 at La Grange, West Bank Demerara, when a gunman shot him in his abdomen shortly after he returned to Guyana on a brief holiday.
He had fled to neighbouring Venezuela after selling his business on Hadfield Street, and had spoken of threats to his life.
