Dear Editor,
Approximately two years ago, a friend near to where I reside told me in details about some Chinese miners whom he use to work for and how they operated which left me in shock. Because of what he told me, I immediately started asking other pork-knockers who confirmed what I heard. I was contemplating writing what I have heard but chose not to but instead tell other people. Then I saw Friday’s Kaieteur News. On closer inspection on one of the pictures on page 30, I observed the different sizes of hose used for dredging. According to him, the decent wages have many Guyanese working with them but the Guyanese workers are blocked from doing certain jobs which I will explain.
Editor, unlike other miners, the Chinese method for dredging starts off with an eight inch water pump, followed by a six inch and finally an four inch whilst other miners only use either six and eight inches. Looking at the picture on page 30, I have noticed different sizes of hose which I believe are being use for the dredging. The Guyanese workers would labour preparing the work ground under tight security and they will have to stand back and look on whilst the Chinese would use instead of the regular ‘battel’, a wooden triangle with a base to shake for the gold. When they finished on a work ground, they would burn everything including the triangle just to gather whatever gold is left. Many pork-knockers would curse whenever they reach any abandon Chinese work-ground and go elsewhere to prospect for gold/diamond elsewhere because they knows that when the Chinese finish with a site, they cannot get anything there.
Editor, many people complains about the destruction of our interior which would be there for decades and because the previous regime seems to be ‘buddy friends’ with them so they knew their concerns would fall on deaf ears. There’s many more heinous crimes the PPP/C allow people to commit against Guyana which would affect us for years to come and gladly they media would be there to reveal them as they are being discovered and Guyanese would realize the magnitude of damage the PPP/C did to Guyana.
