Dear Editor,
So once again, we’re confronted with, or as society need to confront, the scourge of “intellectual authors”. We now hear of the allegation of a “junkie” being paid for a “wuk” that left three precious humans dead: two young girls engulfed in an inferno when they should simply have been enjoying blissful sleep to awaken next morning to pursue their dreams; and their dad, who failed to survive the parachute-less dive for safety from the flames.
Not being a victim or adherent of superstition, I cannot simply blame “Robb Street”. But this crime scene also was on the road that has given the Nation the case of the “Robb Street granny”. Clementine Parris’ gruesome execution in her own home has left decent citizens wondering how incontrovertible evidence could lead to a unanimous guilty verdict from a jury and serious sentencing from a High Court judge while the arrangers and pay-masters referred to in the EVIDENCE are respectfully deferred to as ”business community”.
Over and over we are presented with reports of “property disputes”, which on closer examination sometimes tend rather to be manifestations of some persons’ rapacious greed and callous covetousness resisted by legitimate but “un-cooperating” owners, hence the “dispute”. To go down the slippery slope from dispute to death-dealing must not be allowed to become the practice or pattern.
Folks with a Sunday-school background may recall that even the wicked king, Ahab, was stumped in his quest for his neighbour’s vineyard until his wife, Jezebel, came up with a murderous solution – which also, by the way, involved abuse of influence, framing of the innocent and the corrupting of the judicial process and system of their time and place.
May God help us to recognise before it is forever too late that the most significant way of accruing “added value” is by adding VALUES, if the society is to survive and prosper. At a time when some concerned citizens have opined that corruption and criminality have become too embedded and entrenched to be exposed and eradicated, we have to provide and demand the leadership to turn this tide.
Loris Heywood
