Following a few years of dormancy, organised football for senior teams is finally being played in Berbice with the staging of The NA League Cup for teams in the New Amsterdam area.
Three teams are participating in the competition; Cougars Football Club, New Amsterdam United and Hope Football Club.
The competition which will be played over two rounds / round robin got started on Sunday last with one game at the once famous Burnham Park between Cougars and Hope FC, it ended 2-2.
Horace Roach opened the scoring for Hope FC in the 5th minute from the penalty spot with Jaleel Fraser scoring in the 58th minute. Netting for Cougars were Stephen Hinds in the 22nd minute and Alvin Reynolds in the 63rd minute.
The competition will continue on Sunday with NA United taking on Hope FC from 15:30 hrs at Burnham Park. The game will be preceded by a junior fixture between NA United and Hearts of Oak FC. The competition is being organised by a group of football enthusiasts including Sherwin Forde and Neil Humphrey.
