Delroy Joseph, called ‘Barney’ 26 of Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue who was shot after he attacked a rank with a knife after being cornered in a building at Nicolay Street, New Amsterdam, appeared in court on Tuesday along with Paul Wilson, 22 on a number of charges.
Wilson, who indicated that he does not have a fixed place of abode and dwells in Levi Dam along with Joseph, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
The men are charged with on 16th December 2015, while being in company with others and armed with dangerous weapons to wit guns, at Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice, they robbed a bar property of David Armogan of $150,000.
They are also charged with between the 4th and 5th of January at Vryheid Village they broke and entered the dwelling place of Khanathor Adolph and stole one 32 inch television worth $90,000.
A third charge read that between the 4th and 5th of January at Alexander Street, New Amsterdam they broke and entered the dwelling house of Oakley Hinds and stole one 42 inch television set valued at $155,000.
Joseph is further charged with on Friday 10th July, 2015 around 17:00 hrs at Heatburn Village East Bank Berbice while being in company with another he had in his possession one kg of cannabis sativa for the purpose of trafficking.
They were refused bail on all of the charges.
Joseph was wanted for a series of crimes committed in various parts of Guyana. He was out on bail on a recent charge, however, he had not been attending court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. During that time, he was fingered in a number of other criminal offences.
The police subsequently received information that Joseph had been frequenting a certain location in New Amsterdam. Acting on information, the police visited the premises where he was confronted. The cornered man slashed a policeman’s shirt with a knife. Another policeman responded by shooting Joseph in the legs.
They were refused bail and remanded to jail until February 15th.
