The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) is mulling a one-day knockout ‘Endurance
Inter-School Tournament’ at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hardcourt as a response to what has been deemed an upsurge in the national suicide rate.
“Our Organisation proposes to have a ‘Golden Jubilee Inter-School Endurance Basketball Tournament’ as we attempt to take a stand against the suicide plague and at the same time pledge our support in whichever way it’s needed,” a release stated yesterday.
The sub-association plans to host the event on either February 22nd or 23rd between 1-6pm. The tournament will take the form of a knockout, thus each game will have a fifteen-minute duration (7:30 per half running time, except for the finals where stop time will be executed).
Each team will comprise seven players and two team officials. Because the participants are schools, the association will be handing out Trophies as opposed to cash to the top three finishers in competition.
“The LABA will be conducting several exciting activities and other fabulous promotions as we aim to improve basketball, the game we love. One of our goals is to work along diligently with your organisation to achieve our aim,” LABA President, Lawrence Simon said in the press release.
