Students of Craig Primary School, on the East Bank of Demerara, were given a scare yesterday morning after many turned up to school only to find a fire truck in their school’s compound.
It was revealed that sometime around 07:00hrs, there was a spark from electrical wires leading to the western side of the building. This caused panic among the canteen operators, several students and persons within proximity of the building.
The Fire Service was quickly alerted and a tender was sent from the Diamond Housing Scheme branch.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the school, teachers were seen talking with fire officials, students were seen examining the truck while some were being escorted out of the compound by their parents with concerned looks on their faces.
Teachers refused to comment on the issue saying that they do not have the authority to speak with the media. One of the firefighters however, related that the incident was a minor issue; an electric spark. He emphasised that there was no fire and assured that the situation was under control and school could resume as usual.
