Although he had a matter of simple larceny struck out against him, a North Ruimveldt resident was yesterday ordered to serve eight months in jail by City Magistrate Alex Moore for escaping from police custody.
Delon Joseph, also known as ‘Hot Skull’, 22, a porter, who lives at 3726 North Ruimveldt, had the charge against him dismissed because the complainant failed to show up in court to testify.
Particulars of the charge stated that on September 1, last year, in North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he robbed David Christian of one cellular phone.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Jillian Simmons, said that the defendant was in custody at the East La Penitence Police Station pending charges when he escaped. Joseph admitted that on September 7, last, while being in lawful custody of a Detective Constable at East La Pertinence Police Station, he escaped.
Simmons further related that Joseph was found in East La Penitence by a police rank on duty. When the accused realized the officer was in close proximity, he ran. The officer pursued him and he was subsequently caught and arrested.
Joseph who was unrepresented by Counsel told the court that the police rank at the station opened his handcuffs and told him to go.
The Magistrate stated that he disbelieved Joseph’s story
