Police have again questioned a North Road, Bourda man in connection with the 2014 deaths of two girls and their father, at the hands of arsonists who torched a property at the corner of Robb and King Streets.
This was revealed yesterday by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, who said that investigators have received word that individuals were paid to torch the building.
Persons close to the detained individual, who is said to be about 70, said that he was taken into custody last Friday. They said he was expected to be released yesterday.
A legal source said that investigators have held and released the North Road resident several times about the tragedy. The source described him as the owner of the building, which has been at the center of a dispute involving several individuals claiming ownership.
Theresa Rozario, 15, and Feresa Rozario, 12, perished in November, 2014, in a massive blaze which destroyed the three-storey building in which they were living. The girls were trapped in the early morning inferno.
Their father, Hilrod Randolph Thomas, who jumped through a window but suffered second and third degree burns, succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
A man claiming to be an eyewitness had alleged that he saw some individuals, who arrived and left in a car, set the building alight.
Rosemary Rozario, the mother of the two girls, has claimed that a businessman had threatened to torch the building. She said that someone had also made previous attempts to burn the building.
City Hall records show that a number of persons are seeking permission to develop the property.
