With under a week to go before race day preparations have are going full steam ahead for the much talked about Port Mourant Turf Club grand one day horserace meet set for this Sunday at the Club’s entity Port Mourant,
Corentyne, Berbice.
Over 55 horses have been entered so far with over $4M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs in the seven-race meet. A number of other sponsors have joined the bevy of sponsors already on board including Republic Bank, Rose Hall Branch, Peter Lewis Association Construction and Shaba Car Rental. They join other major sponsors in Banks DIH Limited, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, KP Jagdeo Construction, Fiesta Guinness Bar, Inshan Bacchus Trucking Service, Chester Fried Chicken of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice, Anirude Construction, Sunil Chicken outlet of Rose Hall Market, Poonai Pharmacy of Rose Hall Town and Friends of Port Mourant Turf Club among others.
Meanwhile, the much talked about American Boss is set and ready to do battle. The newly imported animal from the United States will be running out of the Jumbo Jet stable. The animal is expected to be a main attraction in the feature race which is open to all imported and locally bred hoses. The distance is 5Furlongs and the winner is set to take home $700,000 and trophy. American Boss will be in a star studded field which includes Princess She’s Not, Plum Plum, Storm Bird, Big man Bass and Storm Mark.
Among the other early entries lining up to compete in the other events are Midnight Blues, Goldikova, Silver Bell, Amazing Run, Princess Maya, Cat Messiah, Quiet storm and Monsoon, Rosetta, Chelsea, Birdman, Comprador, Settling Star, Bridle Stone Corner, Ready for Romance, She in control, Touch D road, Secret thinker, Party time, Affinity, Massaquita Dr, Liquid Lion, Red Region, Savion, Royal Stallion, Turn About, Smarty light, Speed Vision, Call She Royal, Magaline, Blondie, Royal Progressive and Iron man.
The other events listed for the day are the: – The G and lower six and a half furlongs race which has a winning purse of $300,000 and trophy.
There is the race for H1 and lower horses, with the winner set to run away with $250,000 and trophy. The three year old maiden horses, bred and born in Guyana will be running a distance of five furlongs for a take home prize of $220,000 and trophy. The ‘J’ and Lower race will see the winner taking home $160,000.over 6F.
The horses classified K and lower will be racing for a first prize of $140,000 and trophy over 6F.
The final event is for animals classified L and Lower also over 6F for a winning take of $120,000 and trophy.
The race will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
