On Friday January 15, the New York Chapter of the Brickdam Secondary US Alumni Association Inc. (BSAA) donated school supplies and numerous textbooks to their alma mater in a drive to improve the learning environment for students.
The donation came from the proceeds of the Association’s summer of 2015 party/fundraising activity.
The funds were used to purchase learning tools and supplies for the students. These include $100,000 worth of Mathematics textbooks for the Math Department; $60,500 worth of Agricultural supplies and textbooks for the Agriculture Department and $60,000 worth of lab supplies for the Science lab, which were presented to the school on January 15.
The BSAA was established in 2011 and is a non-profit organization that has made a great impact on both students and teachers of the Brickdam Secondary School.
The association consists of a group of former students who are dedicated, supportive and committed to obtaining resources to improve the secondary school in any way possible so that current students can focus on their education in an environment conducive to learning.
This is not the first time that the BSAA has donated to the school. Their first donation was in 2012 when they donated 10 pairs of furniture, a microwave and water dispenser for the teachers’ lounge.
They also paid and upgraded the internet service to high speed connectivity for one year and have installed fans in every classroom.
In 2013 they donated 10 pairs of furniture, projectors, laser-jet printers, teachers’ chairs, school bells, stationery supplies, a commercial carpet runner for the computer lab area, a food processor, blenders, toasters, mouse pads, a microwave and refrigerator.
Also in 2014 they donated backpacks to all students in 2nd to 5th form and basic school supplies to all newcomers.
The organization’s next annual party/fundraising activity will be held in August later this year.
