Dressed in their spanking new outfits, Pepsi Hornets pulled off a sensational come-from-behind win over Yamaha Caribs in the GTT/GRFU fifteens (15) first division league.
Old rivalry was rekindled as Pepsi Hornets defeated Yamaha Caribs, 38-20 as the Guyana Rugby Football Union Season got under way Saturday in the National Park.
The game started with both teams playing causally, as veteran player, Walter George, scored the first try for Caribs which was converted by player coach Theodore Henry.
Hornets looked disorganized as Caribs extended their lead once again from a penalty kick, compliments of Henry. Hornets were able to register five points on the score cards, by Jose Feliciana, to close off the first half 13-5.
Whether by luck or strategy, the second half saw much more organized play by the Pepsi Hornets team as Rockford Cummins bullied pass the Caribs defence to score his first try.
This was followed by tries by Trinidad base player Peabo Hamilton and supported by Rawle Cole, Elwin Chase and Blaise Bailey, defeating the Yamaha Caribs team 38-20. Leon Greaves scored four conversions.
Caribs points in the second half came from Eon Jarvis with a try, while Henry converted to finish the game 38-20.
The action in the tournament continues on Sunday with UG Wolves vs Police Falcons. The game starts at four in afternoon in the National Park.
The four teams competing in the tournament are UG Wolves, Police Falcons, and Pepsi Hornets.
