The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has shortlisted 40 boxers to go into training for possible selection to
represent Guyana at the region’s first International Schoolboys and Juniors tournament scheduled for Guyana on April 29 and 30.
Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and St. Lucia are expected to participate in the event and the competition is anticipated to be keen among the youngsters.
Among the lot selected by the GBA are three females who would be looking to make their mark at this level. They are: Akea Lamazone, Rianna Rogers and Rondessa Bagot, who all come from the Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym of Linden.
Adequately represented are the Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym in Albouystown (11 members) and the Essequibo Gym, run by Clifton Moore (10 fighters). Essequibo was crowned Champion Gym at the last DDL Under-16 competition and the talented Shaquancy Wright, a member of Guyana’s team to last year’s Caribbean Development Tournament, will lead that delegation. Jamie Kellman (FYF) is another standout that is in the shortlist and is expected to get the coaches nod to represent Guyana.
Those shortlisted are: Forgotten Youth Foundation: Seon Griffith, Stephon Smith, Orin Bancroft, Jamie Kellman, Dwayne Baptise, Sean Graham, Travis Inverary, Shakiem Jones, Brian Harris, Orin Harris and Shamar Bumbury.
Essequibo: Shaquincy Wright, Delroy Elcock, Deron Williams, Quancy Wright, Junior Hyman, Deshon Elcock, Shaquille Wright, Christopher Moore, Shaka Moore and Akiel Mounter.
Harpy Eagles: Akeem Ali, Deandre Linton, Joseph Semple, Kevon Mulling, Kevin Allicock and Travis Hubbard.
Pocket Rocket: Akea Lamazone, Rianna Rogers and Rondessa Bagot, Herman White, Joel Allicock and Duel Augustine.
Guyana Defence Force: Quincy Boyce and Kevin Walton.
