It appears that the government was dealt a bad hand because since taking office, Guyana has been experiencing one crisis after another. Everyone must pray to help the nation overcome them. Everyone must pray that the economy improves; that commodities prices rise; that remittances increase; and that there be a reduction in imports, joblessness, poverty, the national debt and crime.
People also want to see an end to the drought, which is destroying the country. These are all very serious problems; prayers are needed to help the nation cope with them. The government is also faced with a number of other challenges in the agriculture, health and education sectors as well as fixing the dilapidated infrastructure inherited from the last government.
The nation must pray for an end to murders and violent crime which have invaded the homes of many people across the country. Illegal drugs and alcohol abuse which rage against the innocence of youth in and out of schools. Gun violence and gangs are almost in every community. These forces of darkness and evil are threatening the nation’s morality, dignity and its survival.
The people must unite to defeat them and not succumb to the fear and threat they present to society. The biggest challenge facing the government right now is the fear of disappointing the people, but prayers will help the government conquer its fears.
Guyana is a deeply religious society with 57 percent of the population being Christians and 28 percent are Hindus. However, Christians are a God-fearing group of people who like Hindus and Muslims believe in prayers which are needed to help the government solve the nation’s problems.
Gun violence and murders have shed enough blood on the nation’s soil and enough people have been traumatized by the criminals who preyed on them day and night. The nation must pray for this to end.
All must stand strong in unity and remain bold in faith, courage and prayer. Prayer is a freedom guaranteed to all by the Constitution and is the divine right given to all humanity. The opportunity to pray is a privilege, honor and sacred duty to those who believe in it. Prayers could become the nation’s primary defense against evil and wicked deeds. Some say that a society that prays will strive and flourish; one that does not is destined to fail.
Guyana needs prayers; its leaders need prayers, therefore everyone should pray for the country and its leaders so that in times of crisis, they would have the wisdom, courage and strength to respond quickly and effectively to each situation.
The nation must pray for the empowerment of its citizens to do their part financially, physically, emotionally and spiritually to support all who have been affected by poverty, tragedy, crime and discrimination. Prayers encourage people to turn over a new leaf, comfort the poor and down-trodden and those who are experiencing tough times due to no fault of their own.
It is true that the wealth of a nation is not measured only in terms of its high economic output, or the quantum of expensive houses or luxury vehicles, but rather by the strength of its spirituality. Therefore, all of Guyana’s religious, social, cultural and political groups must join in prayer to bring sanity to the nation and end the murders, suicides, rapes, domestic violence and child abuse that have been plaguing the country.
This will not be an easy task, but it must be done. It may not be completed by this generation, but it must continue undeterred. The government has to revive the communities to join in this exercise, remembering that time is not on its side.
As a nation, everyone must make a commitment to pray daily for the development of the country, for the well-being of all its people and for a blessed and prosperous Guyana.
