Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin, is encouraging all local private sector operatives to
ensure that they become fully aware of the many opportunities presented with the recent oil discovery in Guyana.
He made this appeal through an invited comment on Thursday while noting that an oil industry brings with it opportunities galore for the private sector.
Himself along with other ministers toured the Kingston shipyard that is housing the hardware that are to be used in ExxonMobil’s second drilling exercise slated for start before March this year.
Minister Gaskin said as far as he is aware the formal private sector organizations are up to speed with what is unfolding and are showing an interest however, the same cannot be said of other local businesses.
“I think a lot more businesses should be trying to get as much information as possible about what may be some of the economic created by having a large multinational company exploring or producing offshore.”
Noting the importance for more businesses to get involved the Minister said, “I’m encouraging all Guyanese to be prepared and to keep our fingers crossed”
While the days are counting down to the drilling of another Oil well in close proximity to the one which Exxon Mobil had drilled and which led to the discovery in Guyana the Minister of Business also expressed excitement at the possibilities for Guyana’s business sector.
“I’m excited and very enthusiastic about the opportunities that an oil discovery such as this could offer to a country like ours. It has transformative potential for our economy and much more if things work out the way we hope.”
Last May, Exxon Mobil announced that that there is oil to be had from Guyana. Being satisfied with this discovery some 110 miles offshore Exxon Mobil is once again preparing to drill yet another well.
This one is to be drilled close by the location where the first reserve was found and should help to ascertain how wide and how deep the reservoir is within the Stabroek block.
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
