After a relatively quiet 2015, the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) will commence the
new season this weekend with a seven-round tournament, sponsored by the Trophy Stall.
The tournament, which is expected to attract the country’s top players, will be held at the National Resource Centre, located in the compound of the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.
Conducted under the Swiss System, the competition’s first round will take place tomorrow from 13:30hrs followed by two rounds on Sunday, the first of which will commence at 09:30hrs. The remaining four rounds will take place the following weekend.
According to the rules, the time limit per player is one hour, 30 minutes. Managing Director of the Trophy Stall, Ramesh Sunich, said it is his company’s delight to sponsor the first Chess competition of 2016, noting that several trophies will be up for grabs.
The Trophy Stall, with branches in Bourda Market, City Mall and South Road in the city has been an avid supporter of the GCF’s programme, and federation President Irshad Mohamed was once again grateful for the partnership with the establishment.
