Winston Forrester slammed a fine century as Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeated University of
Guyana (UG) by 78 runs when the Georgetown Cricket Association/New Building Society second division 40-over tournament continued on Sunday.
Forrester and Manny Forde set the tone for a challenging total with an opening stand of 94 after GCC decided to bat at Bourda. Following the demise of Forde, caught off Dennis Heywood for 24, Forrester who timed the ball well shared in second wicket stand of 116 with Martin Pestano Belle to further frustrate the visitors. Forrester struck twelve fours and four sixes before he was caught off Heywood for a fluent 124 while Belle hammered five fours and two sixes in scoring 79. Devon Lord chipped in with an unbeaten 26 as GCC rattled up 270-4; Heywood finished with 2-44.
UG lost an early wicket in reply, but Leon Williams and Mahendra Persaud featured in a second wicket stand of 74 to stabilise the chase. Williams played some handsome shots, hitting five fours before he fell for 52 while Persaud who hit one four and a six made 34. Left arm spinner Steffan Wilson then picked up a few quick wickets before Dwayne Dudson and Pravendralall Persaud (11) added 51 for the seventh wicket. Dudson remained unbeaten 44 with five fours while Lloyd George was not out on 15 as UG finished on 192-7. Wilson captured 4-36 from eight overs. (Zaheer Mohamed)
