The body of a Venezuelan soldier who went missing since Monday was found floating in the Cuyuni River yesterday.
A release from the Ministry of the Presidency confirmed that at about 08:10 hours yesterday, Private W. Zamora, an enlisted rank of the Venezuelan Armed Forces (VAF), was found dead in the Cuyuni River, Cuyuni –Mazaruni Region.
The partly decomposed body was discovered approximately 250 metres down river from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) location at Eteringbang, in the Cuyuni River, by a member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
The Police Officer had been conducting patrols in the area at the time.
The VAF location Commander at Ankoko Island was informed of the discovery and he told members of the Guyana Police Force that Private Zamora went missing on Monday January 18, 2016, when he fell into a tributary of the Cuyuni River in Venezuela.
Local police have conducted their investigations and have since handed over the body to the Venezuelan military.
