Colin Benn yesterday appeared before City Magistrate, Alex Moore, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was ordered to compensate a seven-year-old for slapping him behind his head.
Benn, also known as ‘Gaza King’, is a 27-year-old bus conductor who resides at 3257, South Ruimveldt Park. He pleaded guilty to the allegation which stated that on January 13, at Croal and Cornhill Streets, Georgetown he unlawfully assaulted a child.
The Magistrate ordered him to compensate the child to the tune of $15,000 before February 12.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Jillian Simmons told the court that on the day in question the child and Benn were having a conversation when the child hit Benn with a food box in his face. The defendant then slapped the child behind his head. The mother was told of the incident and reported the matter to the police. The defendant was told of the allegation made against him and was subsequently arrested.
Benn, who was unrepresented by Counsel, told the court that he would normally make such jokes with the child and did not expect the matter to escalate the way it did.
