A Reliance Essequibo mother is suing the Suddie Public Hospital on behalf of her infant son Arveer Ashok Amarnauth, who allegedly suffered multiple injuries during his delivery at the institution.
Parbattie Ramdatt has filed a lawsuit at the Georgetown Supreme Court claiming in excess of $20 million worth of damages, for personal injuries, pain and suffering, she endured as a result of the incident.
Ramdatt is claiming there was negligence on the part of the medical practitioners who conducted the delivery, which caused severe injury to her infant son.
In reports previously published by sections of the media, the mother had outlined her baby had suffered injuries to both arms and a fractured skull as a result of the delivery.
According to the writ, Dr. Mirtha Johnson of the Public Hospital at Suddie, Essequibo Coast and Attorney General Basil Williams are named as defendants in the case.
The document clarified that Dr. Johnson has been implicated as the doctor supervising the delivery of the Plaintiff at the Maternity Ward of the Suddie Hospital on October 26, 2015.
According to the endorsement of claim the Plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $10 million for personal injuries, pain and suffering of and to herself and child, caused by the negligence of the servants and/or agents of the hospital.
Ramdatt is also seeking damages in excess of $10 million for recklessness as a result of the acts and/or omissions of servants and/or agents of the institution on or about the 26th day of October, 2015, at the Maternity Ward at the Public Hospital Suddie, Essequibo Coast.
The defendants are commanded to enter an appearance in response to the action within 10 days after the service of this Writ. The document outlined that failure to do so can result in the judgment being given against them in their absence. Attorney –at- Law, Anil Nandlall is representing the Plaintiff.
