A postmortem on the remains of a woman found last Sunday in a trench at Helena No. Two, Mahaica, showed that she was beaten, and the victim’s husband has now admitted to killing her.
When the body of Hafeeza Rahaman, 28, of Supply, Mahaica, was pulled from the trench, even relatives had assumed that she had drowned. She was described as “a troubled woman who drank a lot.”
But according to the results of a postmortem, Rahaman died from blunt trauma to the head and drowning.
Police were unable to locate the woman’s 22-year-old husband.
They were informed that he had sustained injuries to the head and a woman had taken him to hospital.
Police were preparing to issue a wanted bulletin for the husband when they received word that he was at an aunt’s house at Mahaica. He was subsequently arrested.
According to the police, the husband alleged that he was towing his spouse on his bicycle when they got into an argument.
He claimed that Rahaman jumped off the bicycle and struck him with the bar. He claimed that during a scuffle, he struck her twice on the head and she fell in a trench.
He is to be charged shortly.
