Three days after going berserk and wreaking havoc in the Cummings Lodge area, John Phillips of 10th Street, surrendered to the police, yesterday morning after pleas by his father-in-law, Norman Brady, to put down his weapon and surrender.
He was later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remains under observation.
This publication understands that Phillips, before being arrested, began parading the streets naked with a cutlass.
This caused residents in the area to remain inside as school children and working adults were afraid to venture outside.
Norman Brady, a Community Policing Group member who had worked patrol duty the night before, told Kaieteur News that he immediately went to the Turkeyen Police Station where he rounded up the police and went in search of Phillips. He found the man hiding in some bushes in the area armed with a cutlass.
The madness unfolded on Tuesday morning when the man began behaving disorderly, threatening residents in the area and his in-laws. He said that he was going to kill them. He even assaulted a neighbour.
On Wednesday and Thursday he continued on his rampage, as he commanded his pit bulls to kill several of the sheep, fowls and ducks in his yard.
This drove fear and was of grave concern to the residents who for three days were afraid to leave their homes. They have since expressed joy and thanks to the police for capturing the man.
At the scene, the stench was overpowering, as family members who had gone to clean the area had to mask their face and wear gloves as they tried to get the place back to a sense of order.
