The Budhan Memorial Turf Club (BMTC) of Number 66 Village Corentyne will come alive with galloping
hoofs and fierce rivalry when organizers of that entity stage a grand one day horse race meeting this Sunday, January 16, at the club’s facilities.
Seven exciting races are expected to thrill turfites with three million dollars in cash at stake for winners and runners up in the various categories. The feature attraction is the I1 & Lower which attracts a top purse of $200,000.
This race will attract top ranked thoroughbreds the likes of Red Jet, Lady Secret, The Gum, Little, Affinity, Noble Import, Red Regent, Liquid Lion, Secret Escape, Famous Pride, Royal Stallion and Ms Regina among others. There will also be one newcomer to the tracks, Gomamasar, owned by Zakir Hamid.
Jockeys will also contest for lucrative prizes in the J3 & Lower, K2 & Lower, L1 & Lower, L2 & Lower, Three years old (Guyana bred) and the Unclassified category. Officials have assured that the track is in excellent condition for racing and all systems are in place for a grand day of action.
They have also said that the meet will be conducted under the aegis of the governing body, the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, and the relevant rules are in force.
The organizers have also set the deadline date for submission of entries for tomorrow while revealing that additional information can be had from President of the BMTC, Neville Budhan (338-2283) or Compton Sancho (690-0569). There will also be a well stocked bar.
