Ever since President David Granger announced that Tourism Minister Cathy Hughes would be assuming responsibility for public telecommunications, the news spread that the government had scrapped the Tourism Ministry.
Yesterday, a government spokesman explained that the tourism portfolio remains in effect. It has twinned with the public telecommunications portfolio.
The ministry will now be known as the Ministry of Public Telecommunications and Tourism with Cathy Hughes as the Minister.
The spokesman said that the tourism sector remains a high level priority focus area for the Government and Minister Hughes will continue her work in building and strengthening this sector, positioning Guyana as one of the world’s leading eco-tourism destinations.
The portfolio for Public Information remains with Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo.
