Unbeaten clubs Retrieve Raiders and Half Mile Bulls will go head-to-head at 9:00pm this evening in the final preliminary game of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association organized Banks Malta Supreme Christmas Open basketball championship being played at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
Basketball fans are in for a treat tonight in this final fling to determine who are the number one and two seeds as they head into the semifinals to be played next Monday. The feature game between the Bulls and Raiders game will be the second as a Linden East and West matchup is set for 7:00pm.
Already qualified for the semifinals are third seed Victory Valley Royals and fourth seed Amelia’s Ward Jets.
The Raiders will be led by their experienced former national forwards Neil Marks, Dwayne ‘Brown’ Sugar’ Roberts, once he is available, and the former national coach Abdulla Hamid. With them they will combine with their current national player, guard Keon Cameron and the energetic back court player Alexander Rose. The talented Cameron must show some willingness to listen to his more experienced players and learn quickly if he is to be effective. They also have acquired the services of another former national guard Marvin Hartman and with young Duel Garner and Cole Winter supporting, the Raiders must fancy themselves to get past this Half Mile Bulls side.
However, the young Bulls have won the last two tournaments staged by the association and certainly must be rated as the favoured side to win. They are led by the national players in back court players Terron Welch, Dennis Niles and Michael Turner who all made their debut and played recently in the Guyana versus Antigua and Barbuda All Star series.
They are all capable of playing the up-tempo basketball with the exciting youngster Keifer Tappin, but Welch has not been in great form thus far. Turner and Neils are now approaching their peak form, while Welch shooting form is needed to secure a win tonight.
Regardless, this Bulls team is the team to beat and add another national prospect in power forward Travin Dryden along with Kevin Easton and centre Shane Lewis, they are the side to watch.
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
