Berbice go down by 90 run at Albion
Led by 104 from Trevon James and 93 from Keagan Simmons the Trinidad & Tobago Academy Under-19s
registered their first win on their four-match tour to Guyana when they defeated Berbice U-19s at the historic Albion ground in Berbice yesterday in their penultimate game.
The consistent left-handed Simmons and right-hander James, who were both let off a few times by the butter fingers Berbicians, rode their luck well and shared in a 175-run second wicket partnership to see the Trinis to an imposing 285-5 when their 50 overs expired in scorching heat.
Although the left-handed Joel Seitaram stroked a confident 62 and Avindra Chatterpaul contributed 33 the hosts were bowled out for 193 in 35 overs to lose by 90 runs on the fast outfield and slow track.
Daniel Lewis bowled his unrelated namesake Kristoff Lewis (1) at 13-1 but was to their last success for a long time as the Berbice teenagers toiled long and hard to separate the two most consistent Trinidadian batsmen and when the chances came they failed make the most of them.
Both batsmen played some audacious before Simmons, who hit nine fours in his innings, was bowled by Balchand Baldeo before Lewis had James stumped eight runs later but Byran Boodoo chipped in with an aggressive 45 to see the visitors to their highest total so far.
Baldeo (2-61) and Lewis (2-43) were the most successful bowlers for Berbice who slipped to 28-3 as pacer Shaaron Lewis removed Leon Andrews (6) and Adrian Sukwha (8) and although Seitaram batted fluently for his half century and Chatterpaul (33) and Daniel Lewis (26) offered fight the home fell well short of their target. Boodoo took 3-26 and Shaaron Lewis had 2-28.
