Over 65 entered for $10M race meet set for this Sunday
Despite a few setbacks the organisers of the Guyana Cup Horserace meet are pushing ahead with preparations for the Guyana Cup rematch meet which is slated for this Sunday at the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC), Corentyne Berbice.
The nine race meet has $10M in prizes and trophies on offer compliments of the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing Stables in collaboration with the PMTC.
According to the organizers the event is definitely on despite the passing of prominent horse owner and businessman, Mohammed Nankoo Shariff. It is also expected that some of the horses of the Shariff stable might still participate in the day’s activity. Whilst most of the big stables are waiting to make last minute entries, reports out of the organizing committee are that over 65 horses have been entered so far with the closing date set for today.
The PMTC is in the best of condition at the moment with the stands, track and paddock all being spruced up for the big day.
The feature event is for animals classified A1 and lower and is expected to see the best in the business as they compete for the whopping $1.2M available for the winner from a sumptuous total $3M prize package and trophy over 1800M. Horses such as CP Got Even, Just Call Me boss, Princess She is not, Spit Fire, Diplomatic Cat, Jack in My Style, Bridal Stone Corner, Kazi Azari, Giant Time and Lady Budapest among others are all still expected to participate in the feature event.
The other races on the day’s card are for; E1 and lower catering for two year old American bred maiden horses with the distance now 1000M. The first prize remains $800,000 and trophy.
The three year old West Indies and Guyana bred event is a 1500M affair for a winning purse of $600,000 and trophy.
The recently installed F3 and lower event will be a 1300M affair for a $500,000 and trophy winning take. The Two year old event for West Indies Bred horses has its first prize tagged at $400,000 and trophy over 1200M.
The H1 and lower 1200M race has a winning pocket of $400,000 and trophy.
The event for two year old horses has a take home prize of $300,000 and trophy over 1000M.
The J class event is now for J3 and lower horses over 1000M for the winning pocket of $250,000 and trophy.
The final event is for animals classified K and Lower over a distance of 1000M for a winning purse of $150,000 and trophy.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers.
The organisers have also have put together some interesting incentives for lucky patrons and participants. The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
