Kwakwani Secondary School continues to establish its dynasty in youth basketball with a narrow 75-70 win against Government Technical Institute (GTI) in the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Titan Bowl VI Final
Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Kwakwani’s guard, Stanton Rose led with 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Damair Gladstone had 18 points and six steals; forward, Jamal Gilkes also had a double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Kerrol Phillips 10 points and six rebounds.
Point Guard, Nathan Saul, who returned GTI to their first school final in 10 years, scored a game high 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds with four assists. Sabastian Luke scored 20 points while raking in eight rebounds for the technical institute.
First year GTI student, Nathan Saul, was named tournament Most Valuable Player even though Kwakwani prevailed by adding yet another title to its sizeable collection.
Kwakwani Secondary defeated Linden Technical Institute (LTI) 47-31 in the semi-finals with the top performers for Kwakwani being Troy David and Rose with 15 and 11 points respectively; for LTI, Tahquille Johnson had 13 points and Ron Profitt nine points and nine rebounds.
In the other semi, GTI defeated New Amsterdam Multilateral School 58-31 with Saul pouring in 29 points and six rebounds. Malcolm Powdar and Luke supported with 10 points apiece. For the opposing Multi, Sherland Gillis had 13 points and seven rebounds.
