The Deputy Toshao of an Amerindian Community located in the Upper Pomeroon River, is currently in “hot water”. He allegedly fondled a health worker who was at the time taking his blood pressure.
Two love letters written and sent to the health worker by the toshao involved, were also recovered and lodged with the senior toshao who is dealing with the matter.
Reports filtering from the community have indicated that on Wednesday, the indecent act was committed in the office of the health worker while she was taking the deputy toshao’s blood pressure.
It was reported that the deputy toshao “assaulted” the health worker who felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. She immediately lodged a complaint with the senior toshao who bears responsibility for the residents of that community.
According to the senior toshao, an immediate decision has to be made cohesively by himself and members of that community, to decide on an agreement to ask the deputy toshao to step down.
The senior toshao said it was not the first time that similar complaints of sexual assault and sexual advances were made against the deputy by other women, who failed to pursue the matter because of fear. The health worker, have vowed not to take the matter lightly, since she is a married woman who respects her husband, she said.
The senior toshao said because of the ugly advances, he was forced to persuade the health worker’s husband, not to commit himself, since he had expressed sentiments of taking matters into his own hands.
The entire community has learnt of the incident and is ashamed at the deputy toshao’s behaviour. Ironically, the deputy toshao also sits on the board of the health committee. (Yannason Duncan)
