During a simple ceremony which was conducted in the Boardroom of beverage giants Banks DIH, the 5th Annual Banks Beer Knockout Cup was launched on Thursday. In attendance at the occasion were Banks Beer Brand
Manager Brian Choo-Hen, Georgetown Football Association President Clifton Hicken, Banks DIH Communication Manager Troy Peters and other officials from the two entities.
Peters in his address noted that the partnership between Banks DIH and the GFA is to make the tournament “the most sought after event” during the Christmas season. Hicken speaking at the occasion thanked Banks DIH for their continued support, adding that “ Banks DIH are our main sponsors of football and we need to maintain this sponsorship in order to take the sport forward and we must thank Banks DIH for always being onboard,” he stated.
Banks Beer Brand Manager, Brian Choo Hen stressed the importance of remaining committed to the event. “Its football fever right now and bringing this tournament is important to the fans and the communities we hope that they come out and support the event.” Choo Hen stated.
The tournament will be played across four venues with 16 teams earmarked to participate, while the final is tentatively set for the National Stadium, Providence. It was pointed out that Elite League teams will be not allowed to play in the tournament and no player assigned to any of the elite clubs are eligible to play.
The 16 clubs will be battling for a top prize of two million dollars while second place will pocket one million dollars. Third place will walk away with $500,000 while fourth will receive $250,000.
Action is set to start this Sunday, at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary from 19:00 hrs.
