Even though all four teams are guaranteed prizes, the fight for the top spot in the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition is anticipated to produce rivetting action as teams’ battle for
places in the national playoffs.
The venue is the National Cultural Centre Tarmac tonight and kick off time is 22:00 hrs with the opening encounter between upstarts Channel 9 Warriors and Back Circle promising to be a humdinger.
The other semi-final pits defending champions North Ruimveldt against Sparta Boss and this too has all the hallmarks of being a bruising clash between two teams that are laden with experienced players in the futsal version.
However, before these two encounters, there will be three exhibition games and a Karate demonstration to wet the fans appetite ahead of the semi-finals showdown.
The Channel 9 Warriors versus Back Circle affair could go either way judging frm the teams’ performances to date, but the slight edge must go to the latter due to their vast experience in this format.
Once again inspirational captain Andy Duke is expected to marshal their charge for victory with support anticipated to come from Vincent Thomas and Devon Harris, while the Warriors search for victory will be spearheaded by Kevin Barrow and Joshua Fiffie.
However, the feature game should be an explosive encounter and while Sparta Boss have some known ‘big’ players, their opponents are champions who know how to win.
North Ruimveldt will be led by Linris Carrington, while Sparta’s pursuit of a place in the final will be placed in the hands of the livewire Sheldon Shepherd, Denis Edwards, Devon Millington and Gregory Richardson.
The winning team will take home $500,000, the championship trophy and the right to represent the zone at the national tournament, while the second, third and fourth placed finishers receive $200,000, $150,000 and $100,000 respectively.
The fixtures:
22:00 hrs Channel 9 Warriors v/s Back Circle
23:00 hrs Sparta Boss v/s North Riumveldt
