Teenagers Michael Hendricks and Kimanda Hall led the list of performers when the Rockville Promotions
4 Miles Road Race, sponsored by the Rockville Hotel and Bar of 108 Third Avenue Bartica, was staged on Tuesday last in the Mining Community.
Seventeen year old Hendricks claimed the male category, while 13-year-old Hall led the females with an inspiring showing. More inspiring was the performance of 78-year-old Elaine Stephens, who not only finished the race but won her category.
This race commemorated World AIDS day celebrations in the community. It started at the Junction of the 4 Miles Potaro Housing Scheme on the Bartica Potaro Road.
The respective winners and top three finishers were in line to receive $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000 respectively, compliments of the Rockville Hotel and the Promotions Group who are committed to the development of sports and cultural tourism in the area.
The Regional Chairman has committed to ensure this race is run annual due to the overwhelming response of the athletes and those who came out in their numbers to cheer them along the 4 miles stretch of road.
The Regional Administration and the National Sports Commission were among those asked to provide trophies for the winners. The Rockville Hotel Promotion has planned the presentation of prizes for Sunday 20th December at the Rockville Hotel commencing at 5.00pm. On this day the Hotel will be officially opened.
