The year ending Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA)/Banks Malta Supreme Open Basketball Championship begins tonight with play in the preliminary round at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
In the double-header feature, the first game at 7:00pm is between Half Mile Bulls with recent national selectees Terron Welch and Michael Turner as their spearheads along with veteran Shane Lewis looking to have them start with a win against the Block 22 Flames.
The Block 22 Flames will field a side which will have Gavin Clarke and his brother Patrick, the brothers Keion Sullivan and Keith and Selwyn Henry. This game at 7:00pm will be followed by the Retrieve Raiders against Bankers Trust Falcons at 9:00pm.
The Raiders will look towards the emerging talented guard Kieron Cameron who was recently included in the national team against the Antigua and Barbuda All Stars team, veteran Neil Marks and Abdulla Hamid and Marvin Hartman, young Geoffrey LaRose and former national Dwayne Roberts.
Falcons however, will not be a pushover as they have among their lot Devon Thompson, Marlon Persaud, Leonard Caleb and Lawrence Simon to call on.
This tournament continues on Monday when another double-header is planned as the Raiders face Flames and the Amelia’s Ward Jets take on Victory Valley Royals. The six teams in this tournament which initially will be played on a round robin basis to arrive at the top four clubs to go through to the semifinals are; Victory Valley Royals, Block 22 Flames, Bankers Trust Falcons, Half Mile Bulls, Retrieve Raiders and Amelia’s Ward Jets.
