A 35-year-old Sophia resident was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged in connection with the hit and run accident which claimed the life of 17 year -old Travis Bollers.
He was also slapped with five charges in relation to the incident, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Delon Duncan, of Lot 982 Block F, North Sophia, denied the allegation which stated that on Thursday November 26 at Pike and Sheriff Street, he drove motor vehicle GHH 5201 in a reckless manner thereby causing the death of Travis Bollers.
It is also alleged that on the same day he drove the vehicle without being the holder of an insurance policy, in relation to third party risks. He was also charged for failing to stop after the accident and for failing to report the accident to the relevant authorities.
Additionally, Duncan was charged for failing to render assistance. It was noted that he did not offer the injured Bollers any assistance or take him for medical treatment.
Duncan denied all other charges that were read to him. Prosecutor Deniro Jones indicated to the Court that the vehicle involved in the incident was discovered six days later at an auto-body shop in Sophia.
According to Deniro, the mechanic disclosed that the accused took the damaged vehicle to be repaired, in an attempt to cover the crime.
Defence Attorney Mark Conway argued that his client had turned himself in to police even though it was six days after the incident. Conway pleaded with the Magistrate to grant his client bail.
But despite his pleas, the Chief Magistrate denied bail. She premised her decision on the fact that a life was lost.
Duncan is slated to face additional charges, when he returns to Court on December 29.
